115 square kilometres in size, Lake Bolsena is the largest volcanic lake in Europe. Attractive towns such as Bolsena to the north-east and Montefiascone, Marta and Capodimonte to the south overlook it. The area as a whole is well-known for its history, myths and legends, like that of Amalasunta, Queen of the Goths who legend has it was imprisoned and killed right here on Lake Bolsena's Martana island. Well known for its pristine waters Lake Bolsena has gently descending, sandy banks which make it perfect for families with children
Obviously there are plenty of opportunities to try your hands at water sports here too. Every year, in fact, the lake is brought to life by sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayak and fly fishing enthusiasts from all over Italy.
