The medieval city of Viterbo with its characteristic walls is one of the most beautiful city centres of Italy.
Also known as the Papal City, Viterbo is a true medieval treasure.
The historic centre is full of many important buildings such as the Papal Palace, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, Palace of Priori, the Rocca Albornoz (branch of the Etruscan Museum) and last but not least, the San Pellegrino medieval district.
Do not miss the evening of 3 September of every year, the traditional transport of the "Macchina of Saint Rose": Every year on this day 100 men (called porters of Saint Rose) hoist the Macchina (30-meter-high tower) and carry it through the very narrow streets of the historical centre, amongst the cheers of loyal followers of Viterbo and tourists from all over Italy.
